S.P.A.C.E.D

cradled by duvet, port
in hand, yummy edibles
galore, bed rammed
fast against the door,
we begin
to wind our way through
series one and two;
hit the lights,
eyes fuse to the screen
and we watch,
intimately crammed togther like sardines.

jaffa cakes
soft beneath my fingers
irresistble, whispering
sweet nothings to my taste buds.

dusk dies outside
unnoticed;
escape impossible-
we will burn together in our
shifting bedsit
as the characters on sceen
play on
and on…

wait for it-
POP
wayyyyyyy

i tire, sleep unravels me,
i snuggle, limp, into this caterpillar’s
skin, a foetal cacoon
amidst laughter spun in webs
throughout the room.

Spoken Image

A poem that I have re-worked from my term one portfolio, based on Sadam Hussein’s tribunal.

Spoken Image

The artist’s hand jerks hither and thither across the page,
forming a pastel image of a man’s face,
old and indifferent. Eyes
drowned in dark circles, lost
in the past;
starched square shoulders
weigh towards the ground,
his heart in Anubis’ hand–
the scales of judgement
tremble. A feather
outweighs the pumping muscle.

Words fly bullet-speed,
breath rushes: tornado
machine-gun
mouths of lawyers
teeth clashing
eject jargon.
Spit out Ts
Fs Ss with conviction.

Genocide
Humanity
War.

A definition of war:
A concerted effort
or campaign to
combat
or put an end to
something considered
injurious.

Robes ruffle;
the scale tips as a sweaty hand
itches nylon curls
trying to
remember
when it all began.

Truth: Conformity to fact
or actuality.
A statement proven to be or
accepted as
true.
The ultimate meaning and
value of existence.

The human condition
incarnate in army uniforms
and business suits;
truth stubbed out in an ash tray
as recess
ends–

All rise.
